Animation Director
Bob Jaques
Bob Jaques is a celebrated animation director whose passion for the art form was sparked by classic Fleischer Popeye cartoons and the stop-motion magic of Ray Harryhausen. Entirely self-taught in his early years, Jaques found his way into traditional animation through sheer curiosity and persistence—earning his place at Sheridan College after a second, more determined application.
At Sheridan, Jaques connected with future collaborator John Kricfalusi over their shared obsession with Golden Age animation. Jaques would screen rare 16mm prints during lunch hours, drawing a crowd that included Kricfalusi, who was especially taken with one of Jaques’ early animated shorts based on a Robert Crumb comic. That mutual respect kicked off a lasting creative partnership.
Over the years, Jaques has become a defining voice in the world of hand-drawn animation, known for his bold timing, expressive movement, and deep reverence for classic cartoon craft. His work remains a bridge between animation’s rebellious roots and its modern evolution.
